“Wild Man Okano Joins the Fun: When Cosplay Meets Nankatsu SC”

We at the World Cosplay Skills Certification Association had the pleasure of assisting with a special Setsubun event hosted by Nankatsu SC, a soccer club based in Tokyo’s Katsushika Ward that is aiming to join the J.League. Nankatsu SC is well-known for its strong community involvement and is led by Yoichi Takahashi, the creator of the famous soccer manga “Captain Tsubasa.”

On the day of the event, former Japan national team player Masayuki “Wild Man” Okano and goalkeeping coach Kiyomi Kobari appeared as “blue demons.” Our role was to provide technical support for their costumes and makeup, helping create an exciting yet safe atmosphere for the children.

Instead of traditional beans, the kids used soft balls to chase away the demons—a playful twist that had everyone laughing and cheering. Combining soccer drills with a spirited Setsubun celebration offered a unique way for youngsters to enjoy both fitness and cultural festivities.

Going forward, the World Cosplay Skills Certification Association will continue to collaborate with local communities and sports teams, bringing the fun of cosplay to a wide range of events. We invite you to follow Nankatsu SC’s journey and look forward to sharing more creative activities soon.
